Sunday 31 May 2020

Hello everyone,

As I will be returning to the classroom to provide instruction in June, daily activities for online instruction will be posted later in the day on Mondays and Tuesdays. I will aim to have everything posted by 3 PM on these days. This will also affect groups of students whose Microsoft Teams meetings normally take place on Tuesdays between 10:00 and 11:00. The current plan is to move these meetings to Wednesday, though I will provide more information about that soon.

Friday 29 May 2020

Friday, May 29, 2020

Good morning, everyone.

REMINDERS:

Daily meetings are held from 11:30-12:00 in the "Daily Reading and Writing Tasks" channel on Teams to go over the day's assignments. Recordings of these meetings will be available for review in that same channel shortly afterwards.

Weekly group meetings to discuss last week's financial literacy questions occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Click here for your group and scheduled time.

This week, be sure to submit all assignments under the "May 26 - May 29" activity on FreshGrade.

TODAY'S TASKS ARE:

1. Time for Kids

TODAY'S ARTICLE:

After reading, write a 3-2-1 list: 3 things you learned, 2 questions you still have, and 1 thing you really enjoyed. Then go online to hunt for answers to your 2 questions. Upload your list to FreshGrade.

2. Poetry

Each week we are going to learn about a new type of poem. Complete each daily task so that you are ready to create the best possible poem that you can at the end of the week.

THIS WEEK'S POEM: Cinquain.

A cinquain is a five-line poem ("cinq" meaning "'five" in French) that describes a subject. There are two ways to write cinquain: by number of syllables per line, or by number of words per line. Each way has its own set of rule, but the structure remains relatively the same.

Today, you will create a good copy of your poem. You will need to color and add illustrations. Try to include drawings of things related to the theme of your poem or details about you. See the example below. Upload your poem to FreshGrade by Monday evening.

EXAMPLE:

3. Financial Literacy

TODAY'S QUESTIONS:
How many different banks have branches in BC? Create a list of all the ones you can think of. You can also do some research online.

Write down your answers to the daily question and save them. We will discuss these during next week’s scheduled Teams meetings.

4. Origami

THIS WEEK'S DESIGN:
Free choice! Choose your own origami design (one that we haven't done already) from a video or elsewhere. Practice it each day, and upload a short video to FreshGrade on Friday of you making it. Be sure to tell me what your design is.

Thursday 7 May 2020

Thursday, May 7, 2020

Good morning, everyone.

This week, be sure to submit all assignments under the "May 4 - May 8" activity on FreshGrade.

Today's tasks are:

1. Daily 3-2-1

Read TODAY'S ARTICLE:
“How to Fight Fair" https://choices.scholastic.com/issues/2016-17/010117/how-to-fight-fair.html

After reading, write a 3-2-1 list: 3 things you learned, 2 questions you still have, and 1 thing you really enjoyed. Then go online to hunt for answers to your 2 questions.

You will be asked to upload one of your 3-2-1 lists to FreshGrade sometime this week.

2. Daily 6-Trait Writing

Complete the posted worksheet. You may save the image and mark it up, copy it onto a separate piece of paper, or print it out – whatever works best for you. You do not need to submit these. I will post the answers so you can make your own work on Friday, along with your weekly paragraph writing assignment, which will be due Monday.

TODAY'S WORKSHEET:

3. Financial Literacy

TODAY'S QUESTION:
Is it important that goals be realistic? Why or why not?
Write down your answers to the daily question and save them. We will discuss these during next week’s scheduled Teams meetings.
